Day 15

August 19, 2009

I’m half way through! By means of celebration, a dress that I actually wear all the time. This is my perfect Summer dress and I think I’ve had it about 7 years. I bought it at a Vintage stall at Glastonbury. I had seen it when I first got there but it was, as many things there are, ridiculously overpriced. So I forgot about it until the very last day when I happened to be passing again, and there it was, half price.

People stop and compliment this dress, particularly older ladies who comment that they used to have something similar. On occasion, complete strangers have stopped me and said how they saw me in this dress at such and such a place. I can’t imagine owning anything else for so long, and I hope there is still another 7 years wear in it.

Day 13

August 17, 2009

How did it get to Monday again? Mondays should be bright and colourful to give a gentle push into the working week and speed the days along. I don’t think I have anything much more colourful than this dress. My mum found it for me at a car boot sale, the woman who was selling it had previously lived in France and had bought this there when she was pregnant with her second daughter. It’s a maternity dress, there are white buttons all down one side which I suppose you undo as you get bigger. This is also very handy after a big dinner.

Day 12

August 16, 2009

A super sunny Sunday, so a sundae dress. We headed off to the park  for tea and greenery. I had my own personal photographer, Euan, with us this time so…action shots!

I like this dress partly because it reminds me of Neapolitan ice cream, and partly because I am sure I have seen a thousand duvet covers in the same pattern. Plus it has a huge amount of fabric – look, no legs…

Day 10

August 14, 2009

A grey grey day. This little ray of sunshine I bought at a vintage sale back in January and have not worn it since, mainly because I worried it looked like an oversized school uniform. I rediscovered it in a storage box and, upon trying it on, realised how comfy it is. With the collar up, it’s part Rizzo and part Sloane Ranger

The blouse from my own school uniform was a similar colour, but paler. There’s something very comforting about catching the familiar glow of yellow in the corner of my eye.

Day 9

August 13, 2009

Today I am verdant and flowering like a Summer meadow. Last night I wandered over to my allotment to discover all my tomato plants have succumed to blight. I picked the larger green fruits and brought them indoors to ripen, then stripped away the infected leaves so only the green remained in the hope that the remaining fruits would concentrate their efforts on reddening. This outfit is therefore the equivalent of a rain dance in a drought.

This dress is another Car Boot Sale find and I wear it quite often whereas I have no idea where I got the shoes and have never worn them. Not knowing how I came to have something is a rarity indeed so I think they needed an outing.

My tomato red bag was a birthday present from two lovely friends and it reminds me not to carry around a lot of nonsense.

The light was very strange this morning and I ran out of time trying to get the settings right, so here’s a close up too. Send ripening thoughts.

Day 2

August 6, 2009

I’m going to dress like it’s summer proper, even if it rained for most of the night. There is nothing particularly wrong with this dress, yet I don’t wear it too often. Maybe because it’s simply feminine, no glitter or sparkle or bizarre motifs, just plain and girly. It fits nicely, is really comfortable and I love the oversized floral pattern. In fact, I love the pattern so much that when I took it up (it was below the knee, which made it a bit granny-ish) I kept the remnants and made a bird motif cushion cover. Matching patterns was a very 80s phenomenon; I remember having a matching floral nightdress, dressing gown and duvet set by Laura Ashley. If you wanted (and thank goodness my parents didn’t) you could also buy wallpaper in the same pattern. Wear the whole ensemble at once and you could remain undetected for days.
