Day 25

August 29, 2009

A very late post today as I get into fully into days off mode. Late starts, meeting friends, jumble sales, Caribbean food and power naps; it’s how every day should be. A double dose as compensation. Last night I went to The Birdcage to celebrate a friend’s birthday with drinks and karaoke. I decided it was time to dust off this 50p bargain that I have only worn once before, at a fancy dress as Pat Butcher. It’s a ridiculous purple satin, shoulder-padded, bat-winged triumph of a top in size 20 and I love it. I wore it as a dress with a skirt underneath and the Martini brooch pinning it together for modesty’s sake, finished off with a pair of my favourite heels. As you can see, I found it all very exciting.

These shoes are awesome. They are part of a line by Donnie & Gaynor for Freed of London. As they are dance shoes, they are so comfortable. They have malleable soles which means it feels like you are wearing flats. I have a few pairs of dance shoes and I always look out for them as you can wear them all day and, because of what they are intended for, they last really well. Plus, they are nearly always very glitzy which is how all shoes should be.

Today was very dressed down in comparison, a little bit boyish even but just right for a relaxed but busy Saturday.

If I could, I think I would wear shorts almost every day. Maybe I should move somewhere where the weather allows it but for now, I’ll make do with tights underneath. These are pretty special ‘snowflake’ ones. Lavender with white dots all over.  My shoes get laughed at a lot, mainly because I call them ‘my trainers’, these and converse are the closest I get to trainers. I like them because they have white eyelets all the way around and a little tag that reads ‘Bubbles’.

Day 23

August 27, 2009

A Thursday double whammy. Last night, I rushed in from work and did a quick change to go and see New Young Pony Club.

I liked my outfit and sporting my never-worn shoes so much that I decided to have a variant on it today.

Different top, different skirt, same shoes. Until I started skating, I had a massive aversion to t-shirts. Now I have embraced them entirely and they’ve become something of a staple. They might not quite be conventional tees yet, but small steps, small steps.
I had never worn the white & neon top before, I was worried it looked a bit too much like a pillowcase as it’s lovely crisp cotton but it received plenty of compliments. As did my pink shoes, I love them to pieces and have the same in black and gold but have never actually worn the pink ones. Welcome to my feet shoes, make yourselves at home.

Day 20

August 24, 2009

Back in black for a gloomy Monday. These are my only trousers, we don’t get on so well, trousers and I. It just seems to me that trousers like to make themselves known, with fiddly waistbands, too many seams and fabric moving against your ankles, they just won’t let you get on with things like a dress does.
That said, these don’t follow the rules. These are men’s trousers so they are cut and tailored entirely differently making them infinitely more comfortable. Trousers are a necessity today after having scratched my legs up picking blackberries yesterday, it was definitely worth it.

Day 14

August 18, 2009

Last night, a group of people seemed to be having a Hen Night at 3am outside my bedroom window, complete with New Kids On The Block blaring out tinnily from a mobile phone. This disrupted my sleep somewhat. Waking up 20 minutes before you are due to leave is never a good thing, especially when you have to take a self-portrait before you go.

I don’t know if tiredness also gives you one giant leg but these are the things there was no time to correct.

I love this pink thing, mainly because I have no idea what it actually is. Someone has lovingly started making it and never finished, which is an all too familiar story for me. I often wonder what it would have ended up as but I do like it in its current incarnation. It makes me think of a 1930s aristo hobby artist, prancing about with gin in hand, which is a good way to make it through a groggy day.

Day 1

August 5, 2009

My inaugural post, somewhat overdue.  A close and muggy Wednesday, what does it call for? Why, a sombre combination of corsages and cut-up-and-stiched-together-again skirts of course.

August 069

Excuse the strange photo. This is my reconstructed skirt which I am very proud of. It’s one H&M a-line dress and one Marks & Spencer vest as waist band given a new lease of life after being left for dead in my charity shop bag. The top is an outsize silky tank. I like clothes several sizes too big, they often just hang and fall better.

My shoes were a happy accident. I came to work in shoes that seem to get progressively smaller throughout the morning so hobbled out to the charity shops in desperation. These patent t-bar heels were in the storeroom where the manager kindly let me try on all the shoes they had that were ‘Black, size 6 please’.
