Day 24

August 28, 2009

This is my last day in work before a glorious 5 days off, I cannot wait. I am fighting through the day with a boxer belt. Well, it’s not a boxer belt at all but I like to pretend it is. I bought it from a stall set up by a gospel choir at a car boot sale, they had the most amazing selection of clothes. Most of them were too big for me with too many sequins and baubles to alter but there was a fine selection of accessories. So I got this belt and a couple of fancy hats.

This top was my mum’s. It’s not a colour I would normally go for, I like pure colours rather than tones but it is so comfortable and I like the pattern so it gets to hang out with my other tops in the wardrobe.

My skirt is actually swimwear, I have had it since the 90s, it’s a little too big for me now, hence the belt, but putting it on just makes me feel like I should be poolside somewhere. I won’t be but a break is a break no matter where it’s taken.

Day 23

August 27, 2009

A Thursday double whammy. Last night, I rushed in from work and did a quick change to go and see New Young Pony Club.
duvet
I liked my outfit and sporting my never-worn shoes so much that I decided to have a variant on it today.
pink
Different top, different skirt, same shoes. Until I started skating, I had a massive aversion to t-shirts. Now I have embraced them entirely and they’ve become something of a staple. They might not quite be conventional tees yet, but small steps, small steps.
I had never worn the white & neon top before, I was worried it looked a bit too much like a pillowcase as it’s lovely crisp cotton but it received plenty of compliments. As did my pink shoes, I love them to pieces and have the same in black and gold but have never actually worn the pink ones. Welcome to my feet shoes, make yourselves at home.

Day 22

August 26, 2009

What a dreary day. What’s needed on a day like this a little ra-ra.
silk
I have had this dress so long that I don’t remember where it came from, I just know that it’s super comfortable. As is my weird teacher’s gown top. I am having to be inventive now as the bramble scratches are still raging away on my calves, thank goodness it’s coincided with a lull in the hot weather so I can keep my legs under wraps a little longer without melting.

Day 21

August 25, 2009

I managed to wake up late again and not be able to fiddle with camera settings so this is a bit of a blurry effort. This dress was a calf-length, batwing monster of a frock when I bought it. I liked the collar and pockets so I decided that for all of the 20 pence it cost, I could try a little hacking. Sleeves off, hem up, waist in and it’s wearable once more.

green

It’s actually a lovely emerald green, I’ll maybe try again with the photo later.

Day 20

August 24, 2009

Back in black for a gloomy Monday. These are my only trousers, we don’t get on so well, trousers and I. It just seems to me that trousers like to make themselves known, with fiddly waistbands, too many seams and fabric moving against your ankles, they just won’t let you get on with things like a dress does.
That said, these don’t follow the rules. These are men’s trousers so they are cut and tailored entirely differently making them infinitely more comfortable. Trousers are a necessity today after having scratched my legs up picking blackberries yesterday, it was definitely worth it.

Day 19

August 23, 2009

Such a glorious day. I spent the morning gardening and the afternoon basking in the sun and reading. This playsuit is perfect for lazy sunny Sundays. My Godmother gave it to me, along with other treasures, about two years ago, she had had it since the 70s. Thank goodness for people who hold onto clothes and take care of them. Blessed be the hoarders.

Saturday, simple stripes and skating.

Day 17

August 21, 2009

Friday again and time to get in the mood for the weekend. There is no better way to do this than with a bow tie. I have a collection of ties that I’ve slowly added to over the years. Normally they get worn in my hair, but now it’s time for them to take their proper place. I’ve already had a couple of comments, to which I replied that I just thought it was time I started dressing more formally for the office.
dots
Double debut for my new Ebay leggings and a skirt that I bought a couple of weeks ago at the Car Boot Sale.
I do realise that, with the fringe and bow tie combo, I am inadvertently channelling Sam Fox at the 1989 Brit Awards but then I am not sure this is a bad thing at all.

Day 16

August 20, 2009

Ahoy! Despite getting up early, I still managed to run late hence the damp hair. Part sailor, part washed-up mermaid. I am aware that the salute is probably more Boy Scout than Sailor but who has time to learn these things?
I bought this dress on Ebay about 5 years ago and have worn it once since. I wish I could remember the name of the seller as she had some lovely clothes, all customised and screen-printed.

anchors

I love anchors and indeed anything nautical. It’s an obsession I have to rein in for fear of amassing another collection, but this one was just too good to pass up on.
