Day 7

August 11, 2009

This is my absolute favourite skirt. My mum bought it for my birthday a few years ago and it has become something of a tradition that it gets wheeled out around Springtime. It’s not quite Spring anymore but maybe it’ll inspire some sunshine.August 002

I love a full skirt and a bit of  volume. I spent a huge part of my childhood drawing ridiculous tiered and hooped dresses with bows, frills and drapes everywhere. They were quite hideous, but  it was the 80s. During a costume exhibit I asked my mum why it was that women did not wear dresses like that anymore, she replied it was because they made it very difficult to get onto buses. Which is a good a reason as any to give a child obsessed by flounce, but who needs buses when you can do this?

Day 6

August 10, 2009

After a weekend of practicality, it’s back to the frocks. When I was little, I had a red shift dress with oversized white polka dots, a frilled skirt around the waistband and a huge white bow. I loved it so much that I would wear it at every opportunity. My red adoration has endured and polka dots continue to be the pattern I wear most.

The shoes are one of the first things I ever bought on Ebay, many years ago. Doing up the ribbons around the ankles reminds me of Saturday morning ballet lessons and never quite being able to tie my own shoes. I can just about manage it now.
